Now, if you have googled it any time recently, then you must have heard the news: sugar rushes are fake! Except when they're not. Like for me.

Basically, I've always gotten hyper after having a lot of sugar, especially on an empty stomach. Everyone kept telling me that sugar rushes were fake, and that it was all in my head. However, I have often gotten sugar rushes when not expecting it at all, such as eating sugar at a party and not paying attention. The connection is very clear, and it makes me feel jittery, like some type of internal hyperness, to be shortly followed by being very tired (sugar crash). Also, this seems to be worse with artificial sweeteners.

All of the articles I looked at said that sugar didn't increase hyperactivity, but that it can worsen a pre-existing neurological disorder such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD. I don't have ASD, and though I may have minor ADHD I have not been diagnosed with it. I do have hyperactivity that I think is related to SPD, so I was wondering if sugar could worsen it. I also seem to be more prone to sensory overload after having sugar when in a place where I might be prone to it anyway (such as a party).
Does this happen to anyone else? Anyone have thoughts on it? Thanks!
