I have severe sensory processing issues, including severe hyperacusis.

I am unable to support myself or to move elsewhere, due to my sensory issues and other health issues.

I am unable to go anywhere near construction, due to my hyperacusis. Backup beepers are an absolute agony. When I am hit by backup beepers, I can’t do anything but curl up, scream in pain, and hope to die. I already wear ear plugs and ear protectors to help with all the other noises, but they aren’t nearly enough protection against backup beepers.

I just recieved notice of a construction project a couple blocks away. It may begin as early as February 19th.

I don’t think I’ll be able to get away.

I don’t think I’ll be able to survive the noise bombardment.

Logically, I should kill myself before the noise bombardment, and spare myself the agony.

I want some other option.

I have emailed the audiologist about this, but I don't know what else to do.

Please, don't let anyone beat us to death!
Omg! I had 5-story parking structure behind built outside my loft in downtown Los Angeles, I swear I went nutts from the noise, I ended up moving, get yourself some earplugs, jackhammers mess me up. I wish you the best of luck.
Even when I'm wearing ear protectors and ear plugs together, backup beepers completely incapaciate me, leaving me unable to do anything but curl up, scream in agony, and hope to die. ear plugs aren't enough.

I can't move, either, with my spd, allergies, and other disabilities.
For whatever reason, the construction hasn't started yet.
hello

just a thought.... can you put up with calming sounds
you could get some calming music or your favorite music to drown out the sounds of construction or any other sounds that you cannot put up with...

from kerry
No. I've been beaten up twice today. I can't take the pain, I definitely can't take more louder pain to drown out the original pain.
I'm sorry to hear that, I understand bab I didn't mean head banging music lol...if you have a android phone and can download apps try the mindfulness app I have used this to take my mind off the pain I have in my back as I have prolapsed discs touching my nerves and a lot of sciatic pain, you could also get this on cd, the app has soothing sounds that you can change the volume I understand that it could still be annoying for you though, I am still doing a lot of research if I come across anything that might help you I will be in touch sending lots of hugs Kerry..x

ps...I have just spoken to my step daughter and apparently you can get something called noise cancelling headphones u should be able to get these from any headphone shop or try ebay or amazon
I already have ear protectors. I can't wear noise-cancelling headphones at the same time as ear protectors. I can't use touch devices due to proprioceptive issues, and can't use phones due to my sensory processing issues.

The major construction hasn't started yet. The everyday construction noise is bad enough though. It's 8:09 in the morning, and I've already been beaten up by two sets of backup beepers. I am in agony. I can't do anything about it. I can't even explain anything to abled people, because so many will insist that I'm lying, or "playing a victim complex." But I am a victim, I am struggling, and I can't see any way to escape the violence.

hey bab.....I understand the only other thing I can suggest at the moment is trying to get at least one room sound proofed but I don't know how much that would cost or if you could get help off the government to pay for it I will keep looking...also I have found a site that could help you...that sells clothes for adults with sensory processing I don't know if they sell materials that you could wear, but you can find the site at sensorydirect.com I hope this helps...I believe you!!! hang in there bab...I hope I can start my business next year so I can find new products to produce and I can help people suffering like you...takecare speak soon kez...much luvz n hugs...x
p.s also I don't know if you have heard of a site called pinterest you can sign up for free and put in sensory adults in the search bar, they have lots of tips, advise, names of books and activities for calming I hope this helps too.x
I thought my hyperacusis at least was getting better, but then I got beaten up twice more this afternoon and I want to die.
