I found this website from the SID-DSI_AllAboutKids Yahoo! group. Thanks, Dan, for letting me know this was here. Smile

I have a son who will be 3 in December and I suspect he has SPD. He was sensitive to touch, sound, another person's presence in the room, etc. from birth. He couldn't stand to go from laying on the changing table to my chest (the movement between the two places), and much, much more.

These days he's more of a sensory seeker, being extremely aggressive with his sister, and beginning to hit myself and my husband, which is so very new and upsetting. Sad

We plan to get him an evaluation but haven't yet pursued it. We don't have insurance and planned to wait until we did (probably in January), but EI was recommended to us, so I think I'll call them Monday to find out if his birthday is too close to get started.

I am so happy to have found a safe place to learn about this and express my fears and concerns. Being a parent is hard, and lately it seems like it's only getting harder. Sad

I'm hoping that an evaluation and (hopefully) a diagnosis and therapy will help this job of parenting not seem so overwhelming.

Janis
Hey Janis. Welcome to SPD International. I'm glad to see you've made your way over from the Yahoo group. Smile

I'm sorry to hear about the hard time you are going through at the moment, especially the hitting part. Sounds pretty rough over there, so I hope you're managing okay. I really hope you are able to get in to see a therapist and get the eval and diagnosis that your son needs.

I hope you area able to find all the support and help you need here, and hopefully get to make a few new supportive friends along the way. Welcome again. Smile
3 years old was the age for us too where we were sudden desperate to get some help, I remember having days where it was like the whole day was just one long tantrum Sad . In looking for help we had several dead ends in terms of unhelpful doctors and such but it was worth continuing to persue as we did get some really good help as well.

When our daughter suddenly started hitting and biting at 3 it was really upsetting for us. I ended up having to make some diet changes for her which helped her feel (and act) way less aggressive.
