It has been about exactly a year since we started working on getting our daughter diagnosed and treated for her SPD. It has been a long road and a long year and some things were dead ends or failures but by trial and error and a lot of help online we have found a whole lot of things that have helped. Life is still stressful and difficult at times and we still have a list of things we are working on, but my child is 100 times happier than she was, she plays instead of screaming and crying all day, she enjoys being out doing things, she has friends, can function in most social situations, can sleep at night, can eat a healthy diet without gagging on her food, and isn't sick all the time. I feel like getting help for an issue like SPD is sort of like peeling back layers of an onion. Once you get through one thing it helps you find another thing that needs work. I read a lot on here about people who are being dismissed or treated like they are crazy by professionals that are supposed to help and we had a lot of that too but it really is worth the struggle to keep seeking and finding that help even when it almost feels like you against the world. Anyway, I see a lot of posts of people just starting this process and I just wanted to offer some encouragement.
What a great post! I'm so glad your daughter's life is so much better. Thanks for sharing!
