What I tell people depends how they fit into my son's life: his (cyber) teachers get a lot of info, parents of other kids are on a "need to know" basis. Right now I'm struggling to get his Boy Scout leaders to understand that I'm not just a fussy mother, and no matter how many times they explain it, he's not going to get knot tying.
One thing about homeschooling is that I can limit his exposure to outsiders at his most stressful times - like any time fractions or the multiplication table enter his life. (sigh....)
