Hi guys, my name is Ashlee. My 9 month old son Tyler has SPD. He was born with hypothyroidism, was misdiagnosed with Gilbert's syndrome (not hypothyroidism) and regressed at around 4.5 months old. Since his regression, he developed SPD and is Failure to Thrive. We are awaiting therapy for feeding but just started OT last week. This is all new to me -- I have never known anything about SPD and I am learning as much as I can to help my son! He is having such a tough time coping with his world and is having a very hard time learning -- lack of eye contact, etc. This is very scary as a 1st time Mom!Confused

My step son has some SPD issues and was actually in therapy when he was younger as well (my hubby just informed me of this a month ago). He used to bite kids all the time and still is very sensitive about certain foods, hair cuts with clippers, nail clippings, etc. For the most part he does very well though.

I truly would love to connect with other parents of kids with SPD. I am sure you are all a wealth of knowledge and anything you can share with me and Tyler to help us on our journey is greatly appreciated. I have already been feeling like I am all alone until I found this site. My well meaning Mom and sister keep telling me that I am just spoiling my son and that he has my number at 9 months old when he clings to me and you cannot console him... Dodgy It is very frustrating to me. He really is having a hard time!! We just started him on the GFCF too because he has so many issues with food/milk -- he even had a milk allergy or intolerance when I breastfed and I had to cut out all milk. Since we started the GFCF, I have noticed major improvements with eye contact and focus! ONly in 4 days Smile

So, other than that, I am a step mom of 3 kiddos - 12, 10 and 8 and my adorable and sweet 9 month old son with SPD. I stay at home right now, thank goodness, so I can help my kiddo to be the best he can be!!!! I love to decorate in my spare time (not that there is much of it these days).

I really look forward to getting to know you guys on this site and thanks in advance for all of the support I have gotten already. I have chatted with Dan and a few others and must say that I feel blessed to have found such a great support group!
