Does paper and paper-like substances bother anyone else with SPD? If you know someone or ARE someone that hates paper, respond with how you react.
I have a friend, who I don't know if he has SPD, but he hates wet paper. If we eat at a restaurant and the straw paper gets wet in the perspiration from the glass of water, he freaks out a little and refuses to touch it.
I do not like to drag my fingers across any paper substance. But heck.. I don't like to touch wet things either... or sticky... or cold.. the list can go on lol

Paper tho - and chalk, have a similar reaction.. both not pleasant.

As how I react? Never thought about it. I suppose to those witnessing me, irrationally. I shake my hand rapidly at times.. or sometimes I have to rub the feeling away. Other times I feel it through my entire body and have to jump, bend and grab my hand to dispel the awful feeling...

Is that what you wanted to know?
When I'm reacting to paper, my fingernails touching paper feels like the sound of nails on a chalkboard. Skin touching it has a similar but not as extreme reaction.

Fur is reliable at getting rid of the icky touch feelings, so I pet my kitty, or another kitty, or a doggy.
Depends on the paper product. If the paper contains Corn, my skin begins to burn. I will have my sleeve between the skin and the paper even though that is awkward to avoid the pain.

If my skin touches paper with corn in it too long it will start to dry out and have hives. I have the same problem with chalk. I used to avoid answering questions on the chalk board by answering all the teacher's questions verbally. When I used chalk my skin would burn, I would get confused, and I couldn't breathe easily.

When I had control of my paper purchases, I would only buy ones that didn't hurt me.
Hi beck7422... I have a question... When my skin comes in contact with cardboard boxes I itch insanely, and also get hives and almost little "bug bite" type bumps... is that what you are referring to as corn paper? If it is you just gave me an answer to something that has baffled me long as I can remember Smile
Some cardboard boxes I have problems with as well, but not most of them. However, every time I get the "bug bite" type bumps due to a paper product and I research it turns out that the producer has been using Corn. I actually see the Biodegradable sign as a potential warning of "Corn Here STAY AWAY".

The USA is particularly horrible for those with a Corn sensitivity or allergy since it is literally in everything. I work hard to avoid it, but avoiding daily exposure is impossible. ALL toothpastes contain corn. All the recipes for making your own toothpaste seem to contain corn. I just use whatever toothpaste seems to cause the least amount of pain.
Oh paper is awful!! Thinking about things rubbing together or scraping together has bothered me since I was a kid! I become strangely aware of my teeth when I think about it. Does that happen to anyone else?

And being a sensory seeker as a kid, I was always trying to do origami, even though its upsetting. It's too bad, I'm really good at origami!! ^_^
