Mother of a 9 year old boy with SPD. The playground is a disaster. The touching, noise, unstructured play, all age groups. My son struggles socially - majority of encounters result in fights. Everyone is out to get him! Never takes responsibility for instigating anything. Very sociable but not always appropriate.
He might need to see a child psychologist to get help to understand that not everyone is out to get him. The younger he understands that it is his senses in overload and that the other kids aren't purposely harming him the better for his long term peace of mind.
He also needs training on how not to fight when overwhelmed. I know that can be difficult when the instincts are telling him otherwise, but that problem will only get worse if he doesn't get training on how to better handle the situation.
