You know, there are some things you take for granted in life. Some things that you feel that you don't even question, because yeah, sure that's normal. And I'm finding more and more that these things aren't necessarily the case. I had one come up a couple nights ago I thought some folks might enjoy.

Have you even been lying very still, sleeping or almost so, and realized that you don't know where your limbs are? I've actually made a game of it on occasion; I'll lie there and kind of lazily try to guess what angle my joints are at, where this limb is possibly touching the other, what would be changed if I move this, things like that. I never really thought about it enough to assume that everyone felt that way, but that's truly what I thought.

Well, my husband loves it when I ask him something random and off-the-wall. So when I described that sort of situation to him, he was completely floored. He says that he always knows which part of his body is touching what other part, and where his limbs are, and even (most of the time) who is touching him and where. Which is very important, since we co-sleep with our 19 month old son. When we are trying to wrestle him to sleep, it's sometimes confusing as to who just kicked/punched/tickled what on whom, or at least it is to me. So now that I've admitted this to my husband, he thinks it's a fun game to try to confuse me as to whether it's him or my son touching me. Tongue Mommy is liable to get tickled and "abused" at night-night time a lot more in the near future. But in all seriousness, it's already had good effects on our relationship in helping my husband understand what works and what doesn't for me with touch.

I'd love to know if anyone else has had a "fun" experience sharing with a spouse or loved one the differences in how they perceive things and where that has led.
I often don't know where my limbs are. Sometimes I don't know where my face is (very odd experience). Can happen to me while I am walking, but more common when lying down or sitting. If it happens while I am walking I will fall.

I have never used it as a fun way to initiate sex. Because if my senses are "dead" then I am unlikely to be able to sexually function well.
Well, we haven't really tried this sexually. So far, it's just an innocent game with the baby. Tongue But I can definitely see some personal issues with "sneaking" around me in the sex department. So we'll see how that turns out. I think I'll be discouraging this as a choice at first, simply because my husband is really having a hard time wrapping his brain around this. He's glad to know why he didn't understand me before, but he still doesn't understand this and is working on it.

I'm just glad we're able to have some fun with it. It is amusing to say, ok, who's groping Mommy, and figure out that it wasn't who I expected. lol
