Ok, here's a question for you wonderful folks. I am (finally) going to my GP (who is a nurse practitioner) to get a referral to an OT. Any suggestions on what I should bring, do, say, etc?
I would like to add that, while this person has been very patient with me, I find it highly unlikely that she has ever heard of or considered SPD as a diagnosis option and is also unlikely to have ever referred to an OT before. (sigh)
I just had to go to an OT directly. I didn't bother with a Referral since I didn't think I could get one.
Ok, that makes sense. My husband and I only have insurance until the end of July, so I'm trying to get the first visit at least in the reasonable range, and then we can work from there. So, if I'm working within that idea, I need a referral. I'm just concerned that, since she may not have heard of SPD, that I'll have to inform her. lol
So, I guess I'll need something succinct that explains it. And something that tells about OT and how it is used for it. But other than that, I really can't think of anything else.
So, I had my appointment. And my nurse practitioner, who is very down-to-earth, was very interested and excited to learn about SPD because she had never heard of it before and immediately thought of a couple of other patients such information might help. She promised she would get in touch with the OT she knew (who happened to be the OT I was interested in seeing, so yay!) and call me back with her recommendation. She wasn't sure what to put down in the way of diagnosis, etc, for the referral, so she said she would work on that with the OT.
So far, so good.
I get to visit the OT for evaluation this afternoon. Yeah! So we'll find out what the OT has to say about me.
