My son who is 21 months old has severe sensory issues. He has been dx with sensory processing disorder at 15 months. He has also been showing some other "odd" behavior and we went ahead and had some genetic testing done. We got word from the pediatrician that some of the test showed he had mutations to some of his chromosomes and we would be seeing the specialist in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if anyone elses kid has SPD and it was because of a chromosomes mutation? Or if anyone has had any testing done and found out more disorders with their kid other than SPD?
My daughter was tested for 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and Fragile X. Both were negative. Many developmental delays common to kids with SPD are also symptoms of these syndromes, so I think it's pretty common for testing to be recommended. Every little piece of the puzzle will help you figure out how to best help your son, so although this kind of diagnosis can be scary, it can also empower you to find the best help for him. Hugs!!
