Full Version: DD's screaming has actually damaged my ear-- anyone else???

So about 5 weeks ago my 2.5 YO DD screamed in the car and damaged the nerves in my left ear. I was driving and she was directly behind me (not our usual arrangement) and she screamed one of those high pitch end of the world screams. I couldn't cover both of my own ears and drive and it took a little bit of time before I could safely pull over. I've been to ENT who is treating me for "acoustic shock injury" and so far he has given me a and Course of steroids (helped some) , a CT scan (normal), a trial of nortriptyline (about to try) and he is sending me for additional nerve testing. I can no longer use a phone on my left ear, high pitch sounds are intolerable and I need to wear a ear plug most of the time. Plus I'm worried about the possibility of additional damage and it just plain aches. CRAZY!!!! Can you believe it? Anybody else been down this road? I've surfed the net and haven't come across anyone else who's been there.
Thanks,
Lori
Not yet, at least, but I have been worried about it. And it's not just my twin with SPD. Both of them will scream really near my ears. Good luck! Maggie

Thanks for your reply Maggie Smile So far double doses of Aleve and musician earplugs have been the ticket and hopefully I'm on the mend. I found that the musician ear plugs that lower the decibels 20db but still allow you to hear are essential to my well being. They work much better than the typical foam ones. My cutie pie sounded off during Floortime today and I'm almost glad bc it validates my experience and gave us a chance to talk about coping strategies again. Never dull...
