Hello Everyone
1. What brings you here?
-I have been trying to figure out for a while if I have SPD.
2. What is your relations to someone with SPD? Do you have it? a child of yours? Do you treat SPD kids as a professional?
-I believe I have SPD.
3. Share a little of your journey if you'd like.
-I am a 32 year old woman living in Australia.
I came across some old health reports where I was diagnosed at 6 years old with ADD, hemiparetic posturing (left), neuromotor disorder (if anyone can provide any insight on what that means, that would be great), and speech disorder - articulation. I also had seizures and tension headaches as well as possible mild encelopathy.
I arrive at SPD wondering about the above diagnosis by the pediatric neurologist due to some videos I've watched about SPD that seem to speak more to the neuromotor impairment I have (they call it Dyspraxia?)....but I'm not sure.
My parents never really followed up with this and I spent a lot of my life dealing with behavioral issues as well as struggles. I was diagnosed at 20-21 years old (with no prior knowledge about the above mentioned) with another disorder....and now, this all leads me to try to get to the bottom of what is going on with me.
4. Is there any immediate help you need?
-No. I'm communicating with my GP, a therapist, seeing a psychiatrist soon about medication.
5. SPD doesn't run your life! What are you or your child's gifts? Interests?
-I live to read (or listen to audiobooks these days since my vision is very poor), I like to get out in nature, I like to eat, watch TV, go walking, listen to music.
6. What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies or interests?
-At the moment, it's been birding. Trying to incorporate listening into my birding. I also like to pain, draw, etc.
