I know a few people who have gone the biomed route and had great results... it's hard though, especially if you need to be casein and gluten free! The thing about knowing what a child can't handle is that they often suddenly START to thrive because their gut is actually absorbing nutrient.

It's kind of frightening how little many doctors know about so many things, especially nutrition... as you say, it's about being careful what you do say so that you don't open up the opportunity for the lecture about what you should be doing.

The other thing people don't get (and it drives me crazy) is that there are many "chemicals" in foods. We are generally dairy free because I get a rashy kind of thing if I have too much - I can tolerate small amounts cheese and yoghurt because that is milk that has been altered by enzymes etc where I can't tolerate milk, cream or icecream- the assumption lots of people make is that I must be lactose intolerant but it's not that at all, I don't get the typical abdominal pain/bloating/diarrhoea symptoms of lactose intolerance.
