Hello,
Im new. I live in Lincoln, Ca. I have a 7 year old son that has Sensory Intergration. He was dianosed at the tender age of 6 months old. He also has Speech delay- in which has over came. Now just pragmatic lanaguage. He also has ADD, a new diagnose of Visual Processing delay and fine motor delay. He was once diagnose with PDD.NOS in which the school he attend thinks that not correct.
When starting school it was a complete night mare. We were place with a teacher that did not work well with children with disablities. She told me In 20 years of teaching she has never seen a child get as many services at he has. I can request for all the services I want but nothing will help him. He needs to be in a class away from normal chidren. He never learned anything in that class. I ended up putting him in sylvan. Come April of that year. I was coming back from Sylvan to drop off school supplies. I told her he is reading really good there. She said not that I don't beilive you. But, I'd like to see if for myself. She pulled out a SIPPS book. I had to prove to her that he can read. She didnt even know her student can read and school year only had one month to go! I was so mad. He had a horrible time in her class. He sometimes would hid under that table. He was also on a behavior plan in her class. I told her once. I can't beilive your having a horrible time with him. He has never been a problem in the PIPP program or preschool. Everyone always tells me what a joy he is in there class. Plus the IEP team just has nice things to say about him. She flat out told me. I find that hard to beilive.
Well come 1st grade we had such a carring teacher. He loved going to school. She was so loving toward him. He just sored in her class. 1st grade he was reading 2 and 3 grade. Because I feel he was confindent in it. Now in second grade we so lucked out his teacher is a mother of 22 years old College graduate of Sensory Intergration. She knows what to look for. Im so excited he loves her. But now were having problems of sensory overload in her class. She allows him to go into the back room to lay down for 5 mintues when that happens so he can re group it seems to be working. Too much on the walls and going on I think.
Well we are getting a lot of help for him. He sees a ot at Kasier. But they dont work on Sensory just fine motor and Visual processing. We were up for annual at the school this year . Ot at school said Visual has not changed at all in the last year. Ot at kasier thought he as improving. It just really hard to see your child struggle in everything. I heard that Intergartion Listeing system is great. But we can't afford it. Has anyone else used that does it really work? I know a loto of my son problem is due to him being premiee and the ox to the brain. Im always researching other things to help him. Im a stay at home mom. We can't afford for me to go to work due to the fact I get a lot of calls from the school to go up there, plus doctor appointments. I have a 4 year old and childcare it wouldn't benfit me to drive to work.
