RE: trying to find day care
mbeck, aren't there any special programmes, for eg that take autistic / tourette's etc kids, who have space for him just until August. I realise this isn't ideal but at this stage it sounds like he is battling and needs to be in a smaller, quieter class with less going on and people who are more attuned to special needs and possible meltdowns and might have more experience redirecting / managing them?
If not, are there any churches in your area where you might be able to find a granny who can help you out just until then? Being with someone one-on-one might be just what he needs, and I'm sure if you explain what's going on that could work?
Apart from that, could you go back to the daycare and ask if they will reconsider letting him stay with some headphones/earplugs to cancel out all the noise that is bothering him? Ask them if they will allow that, and breaks when he's starting to act up - either on the playground or an empty classroom or the gym - if he can have a beanbag and some quiet time, maybe to look at a book or listen to a story or a music cd he likes, it might help him settle enough to go back to the class.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time... hope you can work something out.
