New - questions about back to school
Hello! My daughter, Allison is 6 and recently dx with SPD. As well as generalized anxiety disorder.
She is working with an amazing OT. So far brushing has been really beneficial.
The feeling of clothes irritates her, no jeans or socks or underware
Can't handle loud noises
Doesn't like the feel of sand or grass
Very overwhelmed by chaos- lunch and recess at school are stressful
Doesn't handle changes in routine- music gym and art class are difficult
Sensitive to smells...but also really prefers certain smells
So I am looking for tips for school. We have a meeting with the therapist. And making her a kit with all of the things she enjoys and help calm her. Our biggest thing is she will not wear noise canceling head phones, or headphones with music because she is worried about that other kids will think. She also doesn't like to use her fidgets or weighted lap pad at school.
Any tips and suggestions of how to handle school, and what works for your children?
Thank you!!!

RE: New - questions about back to school
Would earplugs work? Or would that irritate her too much? As far as clothing textures go, maybe take her to a fabric store and have her touch the different kinds and see what works? I know with me, I need some cotton blend, I can't have any animal hair. Also too, with underwear maybe the kinds that are more like a net would feel better? (I hope I'm describing it right. lol) With the smells, maybe make pouches of the ones she likes? Like https://marthastewart.com/998200/homemad...et-perfume she does here, to put them in backpack and purse so that if she needs an escape she can smell her things that will have a sent that she likes. Just be careful to change them every so often, because after awhile of one sent, your nose can stop smelling it. Also, combine ones that work together. With fidgeting, would a beaded bracelet help? Or a ring with something on it that she can play with?
