Yesterday after our meltdown, and how when mylder son came in the room my younger with SPD reacted. HE beacme very tense, verbally abusive, etc. I sat him down and asked him what his problem is with his brother. I thik I mentioned htis above as I look at my other post, anyway... today is a completely different day! (knock on wood) He is not angry, he came running up to hm after school telling him he loves him, he is excited that he promised to play with him later. So far no name calling, hitting, etc. Hopefully this lasts throughout the day. IT is going to take work with the both of them, the older one to stop being a mother hen and a sibling, and my younger one learning better coping skills.

My son is always trying to get his brothers in trouble. He is 6 and his brothers are 3 yrs old. He writes on the walls and carpet and blames his one brother. The other he tries to trip which scares me because he could really get hurt. The otheor day he called me to help him in the bathroom and tried tripping me. Then said "Aww you didn't fall." I asked him why he does these things and he just says he doesn't know. I'm not sure if its jelousy, anger, frustration or something else. Theres a lot hes had to deal with so I'm sure its part of it. The few moments they manage to get along is WONDERFUL and I tell them how happy it makes me to see them all being good to each other but as usual this does not last very long.

yeah it is weird, my son will be bummed if someone doesn't get hurt, usually he shows that behavior when he is frustrated. I am jsut feeling so overwhelmed this week, oh wait it is only MOnday

Oh I so hear you. It can be too much at times. Is it really only Monday?

Danielle, I am new to this board, but if you are seeing sensory issues and perhaps even other issues that are significant on any level, I recommend that you have a formal evaluation done so that you can get an informed opinion. We had one done on our son at a local children's hospital that has a very good child development center. The person that did the evaluation was a clinical psychologist.

What started years ago with us first noting sensory issues then became a battle with several medical issues like reflux, chronic sinus problems, a diagnosed sleep disorder, learning disabilies and, finally, a diagnosis of PDD-NOS (autism). Without the feedback from those along the way, our journey would have been much worse than it has been. Our insurance covered our evaluation at the hospital, though perhaps not all would.

Good luck to you on your journey. Don't give up.

I make my kids stand in the middle of the room and hug each other and tell each other that they are sorry and love each other while I lecture them on how there is nobody that you should treat better than family. Repeat until they do it "like they mean it". LOL

I know this sounds rediculous, but when my sons got into rip roaring fights when they were little (now 28 and 25), I would tell them, "You need to be good to each other because your brother's the only one who can give you a kidney if you need it someday." This would diffuse the situation, and they'd usually stomp off to their respective rooms. Recently my oldest son told me that really had an impact on him. What I thought was just a silly thing to say to get them to settle down, turned out to have a true impact on my son's behavior and made him stop and consider how important what they were fighting about really was.

THat is great! I know my smart mouth SPD son would just say he is stupid and I don't want it! hahhahaah I know he loves his brother to death, but can I jsut say this weekend is their father's weekend. YEah, that's all I have to say. lol
