I have 2 daughters, ages 7 and 8. the older one has struggled in school from the day she started kindergarten, I must say I started to notice in her early years that something was not right. I saw and continue to see amazing similarities between her and me. She was finally diagnosed with SPD. My research began online and I was amazed at how I fit this profile as well. As I kid my parents just dealt with it by punishments that didn't work and physical abuse. This is almost like an awakening for me, finally understanding what is going on. This is just the start of this journey for us. Hopefully my daughter can avoid what I have gone thru my entire life.

Welcome - this site is wonderful for adults and children - a lot of fantastic brains and compassion here! I am 42 as well - with 2 sons, and I am far worse than my 12 yrs old - and my 16 yr old has just hints of it. But one thing is that I totally understand where how my kids feel, and would never try to stiffle them, or abuse them.
