It is hard when people do not understand. Or when they tell you that you are making issues out of "nothing"
It is nice to know that there is indeed a place called SPD Life where we can share our feelings and frustrations, and also see how others are coping (or not coping)
Only my boyfriend really understands me, so I know how you are feeling. My son as an infant could not stand the texture of ANY baby food. I ended up making my own with a consistency still ok for a baby to eat. I didn't know anything about SPD til about eight months ago. I now recognize it in both my children tho we are all "unofficially" self diagnosed. Being uninsured has not helped me and my children's father does "not believe" in SPD and he says if we tell our children their is something "wrong with them" there "will be" something wrong with them. My kids have great insurance, yet he refuses to look into it. My son has 22 "doctor tested" food and non food allergies... he doesn't "believe in food allergies" **sigh**
I knew in my heart and my very depths I finally found an answer to my and my kids issues when I stumbled onto SPD. It does not take a doctor for me to see SPD in me and my kids.
Stay strong - as I know you all are, as most people would not last a day in our SPD skin.

I am so tired of the stares and the whispers when we go into a store and its too much for my daughter to handle. The other day we decided that we just couldn't put off going and getting MC new shoes(have been dreading this for 2 weeks)so we all piled into our van and away we went. When we got there we made sure that MC had her heart beat pillow so if she got to overwhelmed she could squeeze it and into the store we went. Then it happened...we were trying on shoes and the shoe was hurting her and I couldn't get it off fast enough....so she melted started crying at the top of her lungs and kicking...I was trying to capture a failing foot to remove the shoe and caught it right in the mouth...we all know here that she didn't mean too it was just really hurting. Well, there was a clerk standing close to us and my husband heard him say "what a brat if she was my kid I would spank her ass" well needless to say my husband didn't take to kindly to that and confronted the guy....why can't people just keep their mouths shut and their opinions to themselves you have no idea what is going on and that our daughter really couldn't help it. We did finally find some shoes but sheesh! Once we got her into the car and I could hold her and rock with her she calmed down and saw my lip and felt so bad.
