Fishies :) - Ourfishies - 09-05-2010 Since this is the random, off-topic section of the forum, I thought I'd explain my user name. My boyfriend and I are in the process of starting up a saltwater reef aquarium. Our tank is 33 gallons and we're in the process of researching and finding all the needed equipment on craig's list and at pet stores. We're planning on having: - 2 Percula Clownfish (Nemos!) - 2 Cleaner Shrimp (Jaque, from finding Nemo) - some brightly coloured Zoanthids and some other types of soft coral. We're super excited. I currently have a Betta fish (his name is Daniel). After having Daniel as my roommate for over a year, I realized that it's time to graduate to more challenging companions and begin a saltwater tank. Anyway, our set-up fish tank should look something like this: PS - This is Daniel. wow, I apologize for the huge picture. Not sure how to make it smaller... RE: Fishies :) - Dani - 09-05-2010 Well, I can see Daniel looks just like me too. Seriously though, I find this very cool. Thanks for posting the explanation of your username here. As for the huge picture, I'll look into it and see if there's a way I can get it to shrink once it's on the site. If not, then the only way I know to do it (that most everyone can do) is to open up Microsoft Paint, open the picture up in that program, and there should be a menu called "Image". Click on that and go down to "Resize/Scew". That will open up a menu where you can set the percentages for how much you want the picture to be resized (recommend making the height and length percentages the same to avoid scewing the picture). Then, I would go ahead and save the new file under a slightly different name, so that it doesn't save over your original. Hope that helps someone. Good luck on the aquarium. Let us know as you get closer to completion . RE: Fishies :) - Ourfishies - 09-05-2010 haha no problem. Thanks for looking into shrinking the photo from the site. I will keep you guys updated but just to warn you, it'll be a while before it's close to completion. Even once we buy all the equipment, we need to let our tank cycle, which will probably take several months. Cycling is basically letting the good and crucial bacteria to develop to make our tank fish and reef-safe. Once it's cycled we can slowing start adding fish and the invertebrates. RE: Fishies :) - mawkinberd - 09-07-2010 I didn't realize it took so long before the water was ready for its lovely inhabitants. I am not brave enough to try to get a saltwater aquarium, but I've had fishies like Daniel before (and I'm afraid he looks nothing like my husband! lol), and I love watching them swim around happily. They're so relaxing! Thanks for an explanation of your username. I had wondered. Yeah we didn't either until we started to do all the research. Lots of people set up there tank, buy $50 fish and have them all die within the first week because their tank hadn't cycled yet. Definitely don't want to make that mistake. =P RE: Fishies :) - beck7422 - 09-10-2010 Although I am not a fish or water person, I find this neat. Thanks for sharing a bit of information I had never heard about before about the cycling. I love learning something new. |
