Re-Intro - written.lady - 01-14-2014 What brings you here? So since I found the how to AFTER I posted I am going to try again. I don't feel like an intruder now. What is your relations to someone with SPD? Do you have it? a child of yours? Do you treat SPD kids as a professional? I just got the verbal results from my neuro-psychological evaluation about a few hours ago. I do have 'severe sensory processing disorder' ... not really sure what that means. I guess two specialists she referred me to will have more details? One person is for OT and the other for Interactive Metronome. Have no idea what the second one is ... yet. I have helped children (some with SPD) professionally but since starting having my own issues have not been able to do that anymore. I want to get back doing it. Since opening the conversation with my family. I am learning that some of them have sensory issues too but were afraid to talk about it. They did not have the vocabulary either. Share a little of your journey if you'd like. Imagine a ball of yarn that your pet got to play with while you were not around. Tangled mess with no pet in sight ... but you know there was something special happening when it was created. Well ... I am trying to decide to roll the yarn back up or leave it and just learn how to knit for the yarn I have hidden in the cabinet. Is there any immediate help you need? To know if other people heard of or used Interactive Metronome and if they found it useful. Any tips for learning how to interact with the world instead of retreating from it; although, having control over my environment give me comfort. What are you or your child's gifts? Interests? What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies or interests? I am a gifted poet and artist. I paint, make jewelry, sculpt and make pottery. I enjoy being with animals and nature (especially trees and open bodies of water - preferably ocean). Depends on the day I can enjoy the company of people or meeting new people. I always have a special place in my heart for children - they tend to be honest, pure hearted, tend not to have agendas or be tangled in adult social nuances. What would I like for my future? To learn how and be able to manage my disabilities so I can get back to helping others. Get a service dog (or buying a puppy to self train) to help me and any families I work with in the future. TK RE: Re-Intro - Tuttleturtle - 01-20-2014 Dan does Interactive Metronome. If you want to talk about service dogs, poke Sila and me and chat (say our names it tells us someone wants to talk to us if you say our names), you can get the two of us going about dogs. You might just start something though, as we're both autistic... |
