Does anyone with SPD love to be tickled? - Girlie36 - 05-05-2014
I am new here and see that there aren't many online or on these forums, but I do have some curiosities and questions. I have not been diagnosed personally, but I have been doing lots of research on SPD due to the fact that my daughter is being evaluated this afternoon and she has been considered someone who has SPD and we will find out. So in the meantime, I've discovered that I do have the same "quirks" as she does and then some. I have the clothing issues, won't wear certain things, shoes, socks, blah, blah. I have a HUGE food texture issue. I can't STAND mushy food, and my food CAN NOT touch! The thought gags me. Smells make me either cringe or feel nauseated. I can not stand loud sounds, certain pitches.
My biggest things is touch. I feel like I tend to CRAVE the need to be hugged, and held tightly, often. More than most. And I find it strange that what I've read, most people with SPD are opposite of this and are those who HATE to be tickled or feel as though it is painful. For me, I CRAVE to be tickled. Is that even a characteristic of SPD? I LOVE to be tickled, I am super duper ticklish and actually wish I were even more so! Yes, I said it, WISH TO BE MORE TICKLISH! It's crazy and my hubby thinks I'm nuts! But I promise you, I prefer to be tickled every day and a lot. I love to wrestle and play and I love when it leads to a tickle fight. Is that normal? I don't know. Either way, I didn't see anyone who LIKED it AT ALL, so I'm curious. Am I the only one and if so, is this even related to this? I've been this way my whole life, but just tried to hide it, because no one seems to feel the same way around me. But that goes a long with a lot of the other things I do. And now my daughter is also experiencing things and I want to help us both. So I guess I need help! How do I calm this need for this without driving those in my life crazy in the process? LOL

Not sure how to not drive people crazy. When I was younger I loved being tickled. Then it got to a point where my under sensitivity changed gears and even mild tickling led to the in ability to stop and take a breath. I'm still learning about SPD so I don't know if it's part of it or not. It sounds like you might be under sensitive in that area of touch which would explain why you can't get enough. I wouldn't suggest wishing to be more ticklish though. You might get more than you bargain for.

Well, I don't think I'm under sensitive. I am super ticklish and just light touch tickles. So I don't think that is under sensitive is it?? But yeah, I guess I shouldn't wish to be more ticklish, that is kind of nuts!! But regardless, I still crave it daily and just thought it was an odd thing to crave. So I was just curious if I'm the only one. But it doesn't look like anyone comes on this website anymore, so outside of your response, I don't know that I'll ever get any others! Oh well. But thanks for responding!

Yeah, you don't need to be hyposenstive to crave it. I sometimes do, and sometimes run, and sometimes different parts of my body do different things.
Does tickling yourself with a feather get you what you need for input?

I guess I haven't ever tried because it's more about having someone else tickle me. The whole not knowing is more fun. I don't know. That almost is on the verge of weird for me. Lol

Nothing wrong with being a little weird. Sometimes it can be fun.

I have a mixed-bag of SPD symptoms and I think being tickled is awesome! I don't crave it particularly, but I enjoy it very much.
You're not alone!

OH MY GOD YES!!! When I was a kid I used to ask my mom to tickle my back! She would hate it though since I would want her to tickle me until her hands hurt haha.

In moderation yes, and it depends on if I'm in that mood. If I'm not in a silly mindset, it's more painful. Like I have a few places I don't let other people touch unless I'm ok with them, like my feet and ears.
