Hi everyone - Near - 03-07-2011 Totally original thread tittle, I know. So, my name is Near, and I'm named after this Death Note character, because I like anime and whatnot. I'm a second year university student, majoring in Computer Science, and well, I'm appropriately geeky ^^. Outside of that, I like to read (last series I've read was the Millennium Trilogy - go see the Swedish movies before the American ones start coming out next year - and I've been a Harry Potter fan since I was eight ), I work full time doing on-site tech support (I'm on an off term at the moment), I used to be a lifeguard, I love everything international sports (especially the Olympics), my first language is French and I'd say I'm usually pretty nice, if not shy. So, what brings me here? In essence, I'm friends with Dan, and well, that's the long and short of it. Pretty much all of my knowledge of what SPD comes from him (heck, I didn't even know what SPD was before I met him). I'm essentially here to check out his website and learn a little bit more about SPD - a subject I still don't know all that much about (although I do know much more that the general public at this point). I probably won't post much here (not having SPD or taking care of someone with SPD myself, I have neither advice to ask nor expertise to share), though I might lurk or contribute once in a while. However, I will be spending some time on IRC: if you want to get to know me that's the place to do so. That's actually the main reason I got an account and posted an intro - so people might recognize me when they see me on IRC ^^. Well, that's all for now folks. I'm opened to questions (I won't bite). ~~Near RE: Hi everyone - Dani - 03-07-2011 Hey Near. Welcome to SPD International, or as it will soon be known, SPDSupport.org. (more info coming guys!) Thanks a bunch for taking the time to write us all a brief introduction here. See, you really don't have to have SPD or be taking care of someone with SPD to be a member here. So long as you are willing to chat with people that are a bit odd, happy, and clingy, and don't cause major problems, then I think you'll do quite well. I hope having more non-SPDers around will help too. I don't want this place to become some heavily segregated website where it's just people discussing the gloom and doom and never focusing on helping each other or getting better. It's easy to get people interested when it's a topic that is 'fun,' but when you are discussing a lifelong disorder that people gradually become better at coping with, it can be difficult to stay positive and keep coming back to the site. So, having a few members who aren't heavily invested in the 'SPD life' can be a good thing. It's always good to have the variety, you know? And being willing to be hear and learn about something that is completely 'extracurricular' is quite commendable, I may add. You're a good friend, and I hope plenty of people get to know you here too. Enjoy your stay. I'm a big fan of Death Note too. I also really like Fullmetal Alchemist. I look forward to seeing you around. RE: Hi everyone - beck7422 - 03-09-2011 I liked the Death Note anime. I am a Computer Engineer who has been reading Harry Potter since I was in college. I think I read my first Harry Potter book around 12 years ago. I have SPD, but have no problems talking to someone without it. I have a lot of geek friends (see Computer Engineer above). |
