Dilemma! Soccer or OT? - LynnNBoys - 09-20-2011
I had my younger son evaluated for SPD on the 13th. They just called today to tell me that they had a Tuesday 5pm spot for OT sessions. Why Tuesday?!
Of course, Tuesday is soccer from 5:30 til 7pm (or whenever it gets dark), and Saturday mornings. Soccer goes until mid November (Saturdays) and until end of October or so when it gets too dark and cold to play Tuesday evenings.
As I write this out, I think I'll talk to his coach tonight and see if I can just bring him on Saturdays and not on Tuesdays so that I can bring him to OT. Hopefully the coach will be okay with that.
Why couldn't the OT opening be on Wed or Thursday!?

Oh Lynn, I hope the coach is OK with that. If it were me, I would definitely put the OT first, but that's hard when I'm sure your son wants to participate.
How old is your son?

My son loves soccer and has played for a couple years. I know your dilema. Maybe the OT will have an opening on a different day. Soccer does offer a fun alternative to OT but it is always good to have the OT therapies. Heres a thought could you go to OT early and soccer late? At least until OT has an opening on a different day?

You know what, you are paying them big money to meet your son's needs and canceling something social and athletic for OT is not the most productive way to go about it. I can't imagine your son will be excited about OT when he learns he's doing that instead of soccer either. I'm sure you feel compelled to take it because you've been on a waiting list, but I would tell them that day won't work and you need a Wednesday or a Thursday even if it means waiting longer.

Oh boy, talk about boys and soccer. My younger brother loves soccer so much. He got a huge collection in his room and nobody's touching it. Hopefully, your son completes both plans.
