Neurofeedback - bubblegum cheeks - 10-04-2011
Hi Dear All
I was just wondering if anyone has tried neurofeedback for their SPD child/or selves? I am very NEW to all this (just joined today)and since it is a neurological disorder neurofeedback seems to be a path I may take in my exploration of it all. If ANYONE has experience/has tried it I would love to know whether you felt it was worth the expense, if you saw results etc
Hugs to all

Welcome!!! I've read good things about neurofeedback but I only know one person who has tried it and she said you had to sit very very still with electrode things stuck to you and it was too anxiety provoking for her son who is 7.

Thanks Angela ... again I am going to give it a go so will let you know how it goes. The initial eeg/brain mapping i think is the hardest because they MUST remain as still as possible for 3 minutes eyes open and 3 minutes eyes closed then after that they can fidget and squirm and use tools to help self regulate as they dont need hands to perform their computer game journey, its the mind that moves the objects on the game. EEG tomorrow - ??? lol

Good luck! I haven't read much about that process. Let us know if you try it and how it goes!

My 11 yr old is currently in neurofeedback. Started w/QEEG brainmapping, and is now 20 sessions in. She likes it and doesn't like to miss an appointment (2x/wk). This was our first indication that it may be helpful. From the start, we knew it would be a slow process, as she was diagnosed at a late age (11), although we suspected at 9, and had no early intervention.
At 10 sessions, we were uncertain, but now, after 20 sessions there is definite progress in that her meltdowns are less frequent - from multiple per day to approx. one per day. Although it is expensive, we plan to continue for another 20 sessions - and hopefully a full year. Even with the neurofeedback, she begins OT next week. And, my husband and I go to parenting therapy.

What exactly is parenting therapy and where do you go to receive it?
