New to site
Hi - I'm new to this site and glad to find it. I'm an adoptive mom of a 6 yo girl w/SPD. I've been her mom for 9 months now. OT has been a great help and we've come a long way together. But tonite I just felt the need to connect w/ other parents of kids like mine. I'm kicking myself for again doing something simple that is too much for my kid. I planned 2 outings in one weekend - when will I learn that while my kid loves going out I gotta keep one quiet day in the weekend to give her time to down time at home?

Welcome to the site! Yes, you have come to a great place to connect with other parents. I am a mother of 3 girls. All of them have sensory issues, my 7 year old has a undiagnosed case and she has ADHD, my 4 year old was diagnosed with it when she was 18 months old and I have a 2 year old with diagnosed SPD and autism.
It takes a lot to learn the quirks of a SPD child. My youngest is always changing what she can tolerate and what she can't. There are some days she can tolerate a few outings a day others not so much.
Hang in there! we are all here for you!

Hi, I am a 42yr old, who has spd, and fibromyalgia, and while I dont go out much - it is easy for me to over do things - myself, forgetting my own limitations. Try not to be so hard on yourself. It is hard sometimes to remember others limitations. The fact that you acknowledge it, means that you care, and are trying. Give yourself credit for that! This forum is great for you to connect with others. Welcome

Hi, I too am an adoptive mum of a 6 yr old boy but I have had 6 yrs to get use to him. He only been dx for about 9 months. You are a new mum and new to SPD so be kind to yourself. One of these is difficult enough let alone both together.

Welcome to the site. We adopted our daughter 2.5 years ago, and she just turned 5. The SPD was diagnosed in July. Let's all agree to get the guilt monster off our backs. You may have planned something that was "too much" for your kid, but now you know and next time you'll include that knowledge in your decision. I recently heard myself telling someone, "If I had it to do again, I would have ..." She reminded me, "Hind site is 20/20. Next time you have to make that decision, you'll know what's right." Simple, but true.

B's mom, I understand! It'll get better! But you know what? It'll still happen now and then. My son's progress seemed to be 2 steps forward, 1 step back. He'd be doing so well for a while, so I would think we could X, but then I'd realize my mistake. You learn from those experiences and next time make a different choice.
