RE: new here and don't know what to do next

My sons' pediatrician initially told me that SPD is not a stand-alone diagnosis, it is a symptom of autism. But luckily, he has changed his mind over the last 3, almost 4 years--I hope I played a role in changing his mind!
It also seems to be a greater challenge to diagnose and treat adults with SPD. You can try to find an OT who has been educated about SPD--sounds like that's not an option. Otherwise you could try either behavioral psychologist or a neurologist. I don't have any experience with neurologists, but I believe I've read about others who have gone to appts. My older son and I go to a behavioral psychologists office. He does a weekly social skills group with 3 other kids who have a combination of SPD, ADD, OCD, and autism. My son didn't fit all the criteria for autism, but he definitely struggles socially. I go individually to one of the doctors.
I find that I do best when I go to an exercise class at least once a week. It's my version of OT. It helps both my depression and my SPD. Medication won't help SPD. I've even read recently that ADD can be treated with OT rather than medication, as well.
Check in and let us know if you were able to get help!
Hi and tanks for your reply. I'm curently seeing a extra mural OT and she has help me more than anyone could imagine. The exercises she give is helping a lot. In the past a I had been giving exercises by a physio to help with my postur and balance but after over a year I had absolutely no improvement. Also now I've learn to to deep breathing to calm myself instead of freaking out everythime my hands of feet were sticky or durty or touching someting to hot or cold and now I've starting to applied the deep breating for other situation to.
But she can't teach me the brushing and joint compression and I know were I could find a OT more specialized in SPD but can't afford it so that's why I went with extra mural since it free.
Went to see my family doctor yesterday and he had the report from the physiatrist and didn't agree with is report that OT wasn't going to help with the SPD and his recomendation was for me to see a spyciatrist, so now the doctor,s sending me to a neurologist so I can get another form of oppinion.
