Hi, Heather, welcome! That's great!
I have 2 boys. Older was diagnosed at 6 with SPD and anxiety. He's had an IEP/504 since first grade. The school has been absolutely wonderful with offering services! My younger is more mildly affected by SPD. He doesn't have any services at school since he's able to keep it together at school then lets it all out at home. I try to give him a sensory diet at home.
I know what you mean about seeing other kids with SPD! My nephew is classic sensory seeker, but my SIL refused to read about SPD and refused to see that her son was struggling because of it. He was labeled a troublemaker from the moment he could walk. He got into a lot of trouble at school 1st-3rd grades because he couldn't sit still, couldn't keep his hands to himself, etc. He chewed the buttons off every shirt he owned during those years. Finally they got him into football and soccer in 4th grade--and gee, things got better, because things they did in football practice were just like things kids do in OT. Plus it gave him an acceptable way to crash into things.
Anyway, sorry about the tangent!
Welcome!
Lynn
