RE: Looking for additions to my sensory diet
I've wanted a weighted blanket for a while now... I think that would help me immensely at night when I'm feeling anxious and having trouble getting to sleep. I actually do have a therapy ball, but it may be just an exercise ball... its really big, I know that. I think it would still help a lot, I'll have to try it sometime. The last time i used it, I fell flat on my face though. :S Years back, I had a trampoline and I enjoyed it tremendously, until it broke one day whilst being moved. I was actually pretty good at it, I could all sorts of tricks on it. It helped me to blow off some energy/steam too.
My balance has always been about average, I think... I rode a bike pretty early. Its mainly my spacial coordination that makes me have clumsy moments, though I do have occasional balance dysfunction.
Main way I deal with my SPD now, is by trying to control stimuli. My work environment happens to have a lot of things that irritate my senses, so this can be difficult. I can listen to music, which helps a lot. But, sometimes I need my full attention so I can't do that. Not much I can really do in that case but attempt to resolve the issue as smoothly as possible, so I can get back to my "safe zone" asap. At home, it's a lot easier. I usually use my home time for relaxing time. I'll listen to music with the lights off, or do other activities I enjoy, like internet browsing or reading. Essentially, limiting my stimuli input as much as possible, while still doing what I need/want to do. Not always that easy though, because sometimes I need stimuli, and other times, I don't. Then, I get the times where I seem to be both at once. Like... I want to do SOMETHING, but nothing sounds good to me and I'm still sensitive. I haven't really figured out how to deal with this...
