One DSM Committee said "NO" to SPD, but there's still time to make a difference!
Oppurtinity to help take a stand for SPD!
Well, we got some very disappointing news just yesterday. Apparently, one of the DSM committees responsible for reviewing the case for including SPD in the next edition of the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual is deciding to turn down the option of adding SPD to the book. The SPD Foundation, tirelessly working for this cause, was hoping they would at least place into the back of the book as a novel diagnosis in need of further research. However, it seems they won't even be getting their wish on that one, if this committee had final say.
The fact of the matter, though, is that this committee is not the last one that has to make a decision on the validity of the diagnosis. Now is your time to tell the final remaining committee that it is time to start acknowledging our existence.
Stand up and be heard! Write a letter to the APA to help get SPD into the next edition of this manual. This is critical for all kinds of reasons.
