RE: My son can't feel if he needs to wee or pooh - anyone else had this?
Hello All,
I am new to this thread and I apologize if I am opening up an old issue. My son is six (soon to be seven) and has had issues with bed wetting and soiling his underwear forever. We have taken him to doctors and had ultrasounds and x-rays to see if there is something wrong. Every doctor has told us that it is not a physical issue and that we need to control to day before we can control the night. They all suggested Miralax every day (starting with a big clean out on a weekend). We have done this for about a year now and it has not really gotten better. We set timers and make him go to the bathroom every hour and he has some successes and some failures (going in between in his pants). There are times where he will be sitting on the toilet and I ask if he is done. He says yes and that nothing happened. When he gets up I see that he has pooped. He looks at it and says that he did not feel it coming out. He does not have an issue with wetting or soiling when he is in school or at functions (sometimes a bit of pee in his pants). But once he gets in the car to come home with us from somewhere he will go in his pants. He does not even notice or care that it is in his pants at times.
I found your blog and noticed that a lot of you have mentioned SPD. I looked into it more and thought that he might have this and also an Interoceptive Sense issue. I don't want to give my son some label that he does not have but this issue is really causing a lot of stress in our house.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Rob B
